Update and “Grime Surge” No Holds Barred Project Series

It has been a bit since I have made a post, very busy with a number of things. Yesterday was my last day working in Fede’s studio, which was a great experience and I’m so happy to have gotten to work with him and everyone else in his studio. I also traveled to Dublin in July for a week. And now I am preparing for my month long trip to Prague in September. The first week I am there I will be going to a puppet/theater/film festival in Plzen and participating in a workshop on projection in combination with live performance- http://www.divadloalfa.cz/skupova-plzen/index.php?lang=en

I’m very excited to have been asked to participate in a project series by Katie Hector in the lower east side near Chinatown. This Friday 6-9pm we will present our collaborative installation project titled “Grime Surge” at the storefront gallery on 191 Henry St. We’ve transformed the traditional gallery space into an overflow of material, texture, and information. For the show I created a new animation titled “I’m Spitting Pebbles” which is projected within the installation. More information on the show and project series can be found here- http://nhbps.tumblr.com/

I will post installation images and video soon.

Artist Assistantship, Photogravure, and more

I’ve started working as an artist/painting assistant to Federico Solmi, a wonderful artist who combines technology (3D animation) and tradition (hand painted textures for the animations) to make satirical animations about our contemporary situation. I’m helping him with his most recent project, which will open at the Postmasters Gallery September 9th. See his work at FedericoSolmi.com, or on instagram.

I also got the chance to work with director Amanda Friou. We workshopped the early stages of a devised theater piece she is formulating which ties together a personal narrative about her grandfather and his participation in the Selma march with the function of protest today.

Finally starting to get things together to begin developing new projects- have had to spend a lot of time organizing and cleaning out a section of the basement to work in.

Doing a lot of reading- Finished Joyce’s “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man”, Kafka’s “Metamorphosis and other stories”, currently reading Johnny Cash bio, Dylan’s “Quite early one morning”, and Kafka’s “The Trial”. Also have checked out Joyce’s “Dubliners”, Dostoevsky’s “Notes from the underground”, and Gogol’s “Dead Souls”.

And Finally, here is a photo of the photogravure I made, many thanks to Randy– “The Snowyard”–
